Comparison of Microstructure, Microhardness, Fracture Toughness, and Abrasive Wear of WC-17Co Coatings Formed in Various Spraying Ways

WC-Co cermet materials serving as protective coatings are widely used in many fields. Conventional WC-17Co were formed high-velocity oxygen-fuel (HVOF), warm spraying (WS), and cold (CS), respectively. Deposition behavior of a single particle, well the microstructure, microhardness, fracture toughness, abrasive wear various ways investigated. The results show that deposition particle was different after it deposited onto Q235 steel substrate ways. splat by HVOF showed center hump some molten areas, radial splashes presented at edge splat. WS flattened morphology with no areas. However, CS remained nearly spherical shape embedded into to certain depth. All had same phase compositions feedstock. microstructure all dense cracks or abscission phenomena between substrate. Moreover, fine WC particles due coarse particles, content cold-sprayed coating significantly more than other coatings.
